LEADERS GUIDE (rev 2/13/19)

Provisional Summer Camp at Mataguay Scout Ranch

No Troop…no problem!

Scouts who cannot attend camp with their own troop, or wish to attend for additional weeks, may attend as part of our provisional troop. The provisional troop is made up of youth from San Diego-Imperial and other councils. It is a great opportunity to meet new friends and experience summer camp in a whole new way.

The troop is supervised by full time staff whose only job is to ensure that the Scouts' week at camp is the best it can be. To join the provisional troop please complete the online registration form. All information must be completed for the registration to be processed. Omitting information will delay the registration process.

  1. Complete Contact Information: This information is used by the Council office staff to contact you in the event that there is a problem with your registration. Complete, accurate information will assist us in serving you better. All information will be used for camp related correspondence only.
    1. When filling in the troop information, enter Provo and your child's troop number.
    2. When choosing how many Scouts to register, choose Provisional (not Scout or Venture).
    3. When inputting the names of attending adults and Scouts, click the down arrow and choose Provisional, and then name your Scout. Then fill out the information form that appears next to the Scout's name (click on the small piece of paper).

Hit button at bottom of page, then go to Check Out. If not making a payment at the time, go all the way to the right of the credit card logo, click the button by the mail box and click the large SAVE button. The system will then email you a copy of your registration.

  1. Your week choice will be printed on your registration.
  2. Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record (parts A, B & C) and bring it with you when you arrive on the first day of camp. Youth will not be permitted to stay at camp without a completed medical form.
  3. Signing up for Merit Badges will be available early May after you are paid in full.

Arriving at Camp

The check in process for provisional campers is the same as for other Scouts. The camp opens at 2:00 PM each Sunday. Arrival at 6:00 AM Monday morning is also available. Upon your arrival the camp staff will greet parents and Scouts, and assist with unloading gear and transporting it to the campsite. The Provisional Scoutmaster will take charge of the youth and guide them through the check-in process, which will include a medical screening and a swimming test. Camp ends after breakfast Saturday 9:00 AM, or you may come Friday at 5 pm to eat dinner with your Scout and watch the closing campfire. Purchase dinner tickets at the Trading Post, bring your tent and spend Friday night!

Accommodations

Provisional campers are housed in 2-person tents in the camp's provisional campsite. The Provisional Scoutmasters have their own tent and keep a close watch over the youth. Campers will be housed in the standard canvas platform tents with cots.

Why Mataguay Scout Ranch?

A Scoutmasters work is never done. 52 weeks a year the Scoutmaster and other Scouters work to deliver a great program for their Scouts. Summer Camp is only 1 of 52 weeks. But it is perhaps the most important.

If a Scout attends a week long summer camp, he is more likely to be active in your unit for the next year. He will build or rebuild relationships with other Scouts and the leaders. He will be immersed in the fun of Scouting for an entire week. He will earn awards and badges which will help to inspire continues advancement. No matter where the Scout is in Scouting, it will supercharge him/her.

Mataguay Scout Ranch is dedicated to making your Summer Camp week, a special one. We offer a wide range of opportunities to boost any Scout. Activities like glider and horseback rides will put the spark in any Scout, our natural climbing walls and COPE activities provide a new challenge from the normal camp, and what youth doesn't get a kick out of a shotgun? The Track Program, unique to Mataguay Scout Ranch, provides a special learning environment for Scouts to work on a collection of similar merit badges with numerous benefits.

We are committed to all Scouts attending camp which is why Mataguay Scout Ranch works hard to keep the cost of camp as low as possible, without sacrificing quality. Through the generosity of council supporters we also provide over $10,000 in camperships to help Scouts and their families.

It is our promise to you that your Scouts will have a week of camp that they will never forget.
